Self Control

In this powerful message, we're challenged to cultivate self-control as a vital fruit of the Spirit. The story of David at Ziklag (1 Samuel 30) serves as a compelling example of maintaining composure in crisis. Despite facing the loss of his family and the threat of stoning from his own men, David 'strengthened himself in the Lord.' This reminds us that in our darkest moments, we too can find strength by turning to God rather than giving in to despair or anger. The sermon draws an intriguing parallel between sin and kudzu, an invasive plant that rapidly overtakes everything in its path. Just as kudzu can quickly consume a landscape, unchecked sin can overwhelm our lives if we lack self-control. We're encouraged to develop this spiritual discipline through practices like fasting and prayer, recognizing that self-control is essential for our spiritual growth and long-term well-being.
